Meet the Team
Chris Jones, Principal
Formerly a Principal with NK Architects, Chris managed their townhouse and single-family studio as well as firm operations before leaving in 2017 to found Christopher Jones Architects.
Chris grew up in Little Rock and studied architecture at the University of Arkansas and in Rome, before finding his home in West Seattle. Working as a teen with his father remodeling houses and summer construction jobs during college gave him a greater understanding of real world light-frame wood construction (and blisters). He has put that knowledge to use designing of hundreds of homes, resulting in projects that are practical to build and durable to own.
When not designing, Chris and his husband Andrew are raising their daughter Keira and perpetually working on their craftsman bungalow. Active in the community, Chris has served on the board for the Seattle Pride festival and as a foster parent. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Greater Seattle Business Association, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.
Michael Stapleton, Project Manager
Michael’s passion for architecture began with a childhood interest in old buildings and bridges. Four years spent in construction after high school provided him with solid understanding of how buildings are put together. He studied architecture at Texas Tech University where he earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree with a design focus, and then followed that up with a Master of Architecture with a project and office management focus.
Michael began his career taking a year out from undergraduate studies to do an internship at RTKL’s Dallas office, an inspirational experience that led him to focus more on building technology and project management. During grad school he worked with Rodriguez Arquitectos, a small architecture firm in Leon, Mexico, which introduced him to a different way of thinking about architecture and construction, a fascination with Mexican architecture, and a passion for the Mexican culture. He found his way to Seattle in 1995, and has worked on a variety of project types including multi-family, custom single family, commercial, and in recent years assisted care and memory care facilities. Now at Christopher Jones Architects, Michael manages our multi-family projects, and makes sure the candy bowl stays full.
When not following his passion for architecture, Michael is usually hanging out with his wife Esther, who he met during his time in Mexico, and their twelve-year-old daughter Nicole. As a family they enjoy travelling, sailing, camping, skateboarding, and baking cookies, but sometimes Michael will sneak away to go ride his motorcycle.
Lance Oyler, Project Manager
Lance came to Christopher Jones Architects in 2017 after running his own firm specializing in additions and remodels of single family residences and tenant improvements. He brings over 15 years architectural experience and a passion for design and construction to the firm.
As a child growing up in southeastern Idaho, Lance found a box of architectural plans for modest single-family residences in a basement. The drawings held a deep fascination for him and he spent many an evening trying to draft his own plans for fun. This led him to study architecture at the University of Idaho and in study abroad programs in Finland and Rome. During college, he spent his summers working in construction, an experience that started a lasting fascination with building detailing and construction methods that continue to serve him as an architect.
In his spare time, lance likes to work in his woodshop, play his guitar, cycle, remodel his lovely Tukwila home, and talk about himself in the third person.
